Interview
with Dr. Guang-yu Wang of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission,
on LA18 Power Breakfast Morning News (Segment 1) Dr.
Wang discussed general water pollutants and offered details about local
DDT and PCB contaminants. He talked about the contaminants’
history in the Palos Verdes Shelf and mentioned that there are over 110
tons in our local waters. Dr. Wang also addressed bottom feeders in
these areas and fish of concern, namely White Croaker.

Rebecca Soong on behalf of EPA Host Shen Ming-Li interviewed Dr. Wang and Rebecca Soong of Herald Community Center for a discussion on local water contamination in the Palos Verdes Shelf and safer fish-eating habits. Dr. Wang discussed the legacy of local contamination, the contaminants: DDT and PCB, the fish of concern (White Croaker) and affected areas in Los Angeles. He encouraged listeners to come to the EPA Open House. Rebecca Soong spoke on behalf of FCEC’s Chinese community-based organizations about the health effects of contaminated fish, the target audiences most at-risk and tips for preparing fish. She encouraged listeners to participate in upcoming health clinics and educational workshops to learn more.
